Sports Anchor/Reporter

WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC station in Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY as an opening for a Sports Anchor/Reporter. Applicant must have proven ability to tell compelling stories, perform dynamic live shots, and must be able to shoot and edit. We need a storyteller who has a dynamic on-air presence and excellent communication skills. You must also have a proven track record of social media engagement.

Job Responsibilities:   

  • Prepare and anchor sports segment and sports stories for weekend evening shows
  • Serve as a reporter and photographer for gathering and presenting sports stories during the week and on weekends
  • Fill in for weekend sports anchor/reporter
  • Produce and anchor sports specials
  • Post sports stories to digital platforms including social media
  • Work with promotions and marketing to provide material for promoting stories and segments
  • Work with the assignment desk to plan resources for sports coverage
  • Travel to sporting events for coverage at times

Experience Requirements:

  • At least two years in a commercial TV newsroom preferable as a sports anchor/reporter
  • Non-linear editing knowledge, preferable with Adobe Premier
  • Knowledge and experience with ENPS

Newscast Producer

WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market has an opening for a Newscast Producer. We’re looking for a story teller who thrives on breaking news, and the urgency of a fast-paced, dynamic newscast. Our next producer will join a team of award-winning journalists committed to dynamic local news coverage. We want a producer who demonstrates solid news judgement, and who has an eye for using video, graphics, and studio features to effectively convey information.   We approach everything as a team at WPTZ. We expect you to come in with an open mind, ready to learn and ready to lend a hand to other members of the team when needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Selecting, and writing material for a daily newscast.
  • Building graphics and shaping how a story is presented for a live newscast.
  • Working with reporters and helping them shape their daily reports.
  • Possess an ability to communicate clearly and quickly to effectively give direction, and to explain your vision of a newscast to anchors, reporters, and directors.
  • Selecting, researching and writing content for live newscasts to make the newscast an “experience” for viewers
  • Communicating, coordinating and executing creative vision with team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
  • Our producers are required to edit video and contribute to our digital platforms.

Experience Requirements:

  • Creative presentation style
  • Experience in a newsroom, the ability to remain calm under pressure and knowledge of ENPS are pluses.
  • Military experience in a related occupation specialty will be considered.

Meteorologist

WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate station in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY, has an opportunity for a high energy, highly skilled meteorologist to join our Weather Team. We are looking for a meteorologist who knows the science, but can tell a relatable weather story. Our next meteorologist will be an accurate forecaster, convey an appropriate tone of urgency and authority in severe weather coverage, summarize complicated information, and stay cool under pressure. This meteorologist will be assigned to weekend weather anchoring, fill-in for weekday meteorologists and reporting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Give our viewers the weather forecast with accurate, compelling, and understandable weather storytelling and graphics.
  • Will provide urgent, immediate weather information before and during severe weather events
  • Will be able to simultaneously provide content on TV and on our digital platforms.
  • Will use all the technology and tools available to us including the WSI weather system, to tell an intriguing weather story
  • Could be deployed in the field during weather events
  • Gather news and information
  • Summarize fact and clearly communicate content for broadcast

Qualifications Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting.

Sales Account Associate- Entry Level

WPTZ/NBC5, a Hearst Television station in the Burlington/Plattsburgh market is looking for a Sales Account Associate. As a Sales Account Associate, you will work with the sales team on processing and advertising contracts, obtaining creative materials, generating support materials for sales teams, and coordinating the scheduling and launch of advertising campaigns. This individual will work closely with the advertising sales team to ensure effective placement of sales activity. The Entry Level – Sales Associate position is a training sales program that will develop Sales Account Associates into Sales Account Executives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the development of sales proposals, advertising packages, and client presentations.
  • Create supportive marketing materials for the sales department.
