News Anchor

Be a part of (ABC) Local 22 / (FOX) Local 44’s news team!  You will write, and edit copy for news, and serve as the co-anchor.  You will serve as a primary presenter of news stories and other content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.  You will be energetic and show integrity and authority in communicating the Local 22/Local 44 News content philosophy. We expect our anchors to be newsroom leaders, and to work with news management to grow ratings and share of audience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Presents news stories and other content for all platforms.
  • Ensures that all news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Writes and delivers news stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Assists in producing newscasts and communicates clear direction with team members.
  • Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating news programming and other content.
  • Acts as a field reporter as assigned.
  • Conducts interviews with news makers and can easily interact with community leaders.
  • Responds with urgency to breaking news and other newsroom situations as required.
  • Participates in frequent promotional activities including public appearances.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Writes and edits copy and video as assigned for both TV and Digital platforms.
  • Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites, takes a leadership role in growing digital audience.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib and interact with other on-air team members.
  • Minimum two year’s experience in news reporting or anchoring.
  • Superior on-air appearance and presence.
  • Excellent news judgement with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues.
  • Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.

Digital News Producer

WFFF-TV and WVNY-TV, the FOX and ABC affiliates covering Vermont, Northern New York, and Southern New Hampshire, are looking for a Digital News Producer. We want someone with a keen sense of news judgment and a good grasp on what gets conversations going with our viewers. The primary roles will be generating content for on-line publication and engaging with viewers via social media. The right person will be creative, motivated, hard-working, forward thinking, aggressive and a team player.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the key editorial leader for news content on digital platforms.
  • Manages digital, mobile, and social properties while contributing to and executing a strategy for growth.
  • Writes stories and posts videos for websites, apps, social media, and other digital platforms.
  • Works with producers to ensure digital content is integrated into newscasts.
  • Acts as a liaison between the digital team and other areas of the stations, including news, promotions, and sales.
  • Oversees the digital contributions from other staff members, and provides guidance to help improve their work.
  • Builds special sections for websites and apps using content management systems.
  • Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites, as well as by email and phone.
  • Maintains accuracy and integrity in news products delivered.
  • Ensures station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work related experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a digital role in a television newsroom preferred.
  • Knowledge of content management systems, HTML, CSS and Google Analytics preferred.
  • Impeccable grammar and spelling, and ability to write interesting, understandable copy 
  • Fluency in English; excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multi-task, deal with extreme deadline pressure, and react/coordinate coverage under live breaking news situations is crucial.
  • Ability to work extended hours, as needed.

The Digital News Producer must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. The Digital News Producer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.

Position Summary:

The Multimedia Journalist produces, reports, shoots, writes, voices, edits and feeds news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Report news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of events
  • Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about stories
  • Review copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines
  • Review and evaluate notes taken about event aspects in order to isolate pertinent facts and details
  • Determine a story’s emphasis, length and format and organize material accordingly
  • Research and analyze background information related to news stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information
  • Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functions
  • Pitch stories to news managers and news producers which are relevant to the local community
  • Receive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas
  • Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities or positions.
  • Check reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts.

Master Control Operator

LOCAL 22 (WVNY) and LOCAL 44 (WFFF) is looking for a part time Master Control Operator.  This job is for the person that enjoys working with computers, servers and technical equipment.  You must be incredibly organized, detail oriented and able to multi-task. Responsibilities include recording and downloading content, monitoring the quality of feeds and operating master control software and equipment.  Broadcast experience or computer orientation helpful, on-site training offered.   • Overall on-air look of the television station through airing programming and scheduled station breaks.
  • Monitor strength, clarity and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain quality broadcasts
