Production Assistant (Part-Time)

WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst Television Station in the Burlington/Plattsburgh market, has an opening for a part time Production Assistant. We are looking for an energetic team player who understands the flexible schedule that the broadcast industry requires to join our production crew. This person will be responsible for operating cameras, teleprompter and video equipment; as related to live broadcasts and post-production.  Must have good technical skills, and good communication skills. Responsibilities include floor directing, assisting the news department, and other duties as assigned. 
 
Job Responsibilities: 

  • Operation of cameras, prompters, sets and other production equipment. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment necessary.
  • Lighting and script preparation for newscasts. 
  • Video cueing during newscasts. 
  • Maintain professional appearance of studio/sets.  
  • Assist the directors as needed.  

Experience Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of television newscast equipment and software required. 
  • Videography experience helpful. 
  • Related military experience will be considered 

 Qualifications Requirements: 

  • Must have a good attitude, be willing to learn, and be a team player. 
  • Must be able to problem solve quickly and work well under pressure and tight deadlines. 
  • Attention to detail a must.
  • Understanding of Grass Valley Automation a plus. 

 Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications preferred. Current local students encouraged to apply. 
  • Equivalent military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) and associated experience will be considered.

Multimedia Journalist

WPTZ-TV, the NBC affiliate in Burlington, VT-Plattsburgh, NY market, is looking for a Multimedia Journalist that has the ability to generate story ideas, write to video, and do compelling live shots. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who wants to win each day. The Multimedia Journalist should be an accurate, ethical, compelling storyteller with a team attitude. The right candidate loves telling stories and delivering them LIVE to the viewers. This person will produce content on-air, on-line, and for our mobile devices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gather information for stories and live reports for newscasts that could include mornings, nights and weekends.   Variable shift possible.

  • Work with reporters on packages, special reports and documentaries

Experience Requirements:

  • At least one-year television news reporting, photography and editing

Anchor Reporter – Weekday Evenings

WPTZ/WNNE, a Hearst Television Inc., NBC affiliate in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market has a rare opportunity  for a weekday evening Anchor. Our anchors are leaders in our newsroom, guiding and mentoring less experienced journalists in our organization. Our anchors enterprise and deliver news for multiple platforms, including TV, digital and mobile. In addition to anchoring newscasts, this employee will gather, generate and produce stories and series.

Job Responsibilities:                                               

  • Anchor one or more newscasts 
  • Special reporting duties as needed (sweeps, series, leads)
  • Be available for breaking news coverage as needed
  • Perform public appearances, when needed, to further the image of the station.
  • Provide content for our television and digital platforms.      

Experience Requirements:

  • 2-3 years experience, with significant reporting/anchoring responsibilities
  • Knowledge of New York/New England a plus

Qualifications Requirements:                                             

  • Strong storytelling and live skills 
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities
  • Solid news judgment 
  • Ability to mentor and mold less experience journalists in a calm and reassuring fashion

Anchor Reporter – Weekend Evenings
