Multi Media Journalist

WPTZ-TV, the NBC affiliate in Burlington, VT-Plattsburgh, NY market, is looking for a Multimedia Journalist that has the ability to generate story ideas, write to video, and do compelling live shots. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who wants to win each day. The Multimedia Journalist should be an accurate, ethical, compelling storyteller with a team attitude. The right candidate loves telling stories and delivering them LIVE to the viewers. This person will produce content on-air, on-line, and for our mobile devices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gather information for stories and live reports for newscasts that could include mornings, nights and weekends.   Variable shift possible.
  • Put together high-quality packages.
  • Coverage of breaking news
  • Develop sources and generate story ideas
  • Shoot live shots and live interviews
  • Shoot and track news stories
  • Work with reporters on packages, special reports and documentaries

Experience Requirements:

  • At least one-year television news reporting, photography and editing
  • Breaking news/sports reporter
  • Creative writer and packager
  • Military multimedia experience will be considered

Digital Sales Manager

WPTZ/WNNE, the Hearst Television owned NBC affiliate in the scenic Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market is seeking a proven Digital Sales Manager to provide energized leadership for our digital sales initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses a passion for new media and enjoys staying up-to-date with its evolution, understands digital marketing strategy and thrives in a customer-focused team environment.  Required strengths include: the ability to strategically plan, communicate effectively, build and maintain internal and external customer relationships and training.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and implement individual advertiser account strategy including revenue goals.
  • Regularly meet with local sales team, including group and individual meetings, to ensure their professional development and success with stated goals.
  • In partnership with the Local Sales Manager, lead weekly sales meeting; prepare and lead quarterly/annual sales planning meeting.
  • Consistently evaluate seller performance and provide feedback.
  • Act as primary negotiator for the station on all digital business; review key sales proposals in advance to ensure client goals are achieved in a manner consistent with station sales guidelines.
  • Respond to RFP requests; meet client deadlines.
  • Meet extensively with clients to develop/strengthen business relationships; drive client retention.
  • Develop/strengthen business relationships with key station vendors.
  • Support local sellers in sales presentations to multiple points of contact with client/agency personnel.
  • Develop and generate non-traditional revenue and new sales initiatives.
  • Manage various expense budgets related to digital initiatives.
  • Work in partnership with the Local Sales Manager and National Sales Manager to achieve stated and strategic goals.
  • Provide training to Local and National sellers.
  • Ensure that all necessary sales presentations are comprehensive and available in advance of the selling window.
  • Maintain current and accurate revenue forecasts by account.
  • Review and approve new insertion orders.
  • Prepare and present various reports.
  • Follow and meet all HTV Digital Sales Managers standard operating procedures as outlined.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HTV advertising regulations.
  • Communicate regularly with the General Sales Manager on all aspects of digital business.

Be agile in responding to dynamic business conditions and station business needs.

Experience Requirements:

  •  Have a complete understanding of current digital marketing strategies including synergist values with other media.
  • Understanding of pricing and inventory management principles.
  • Ability to dissect an advertising RFP; identify key revenue opportunities, and prepare comprehensive and winning response.
  • Ability to prospect, meet with, and close business with new station clients.
  • Possess the skills to manage and supervise others.
  • Related military experience will be considered

Qualifications Requirements:  

  • Strong formal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Proficiency with Wide Orbit, Kantar, and One Domain/WO
  • Media Office a plus.
  • Valid drivers license and reliable automobile are required.

Education: 

  • College degree preferred.

Newscast Director

NBC5/WPTZ, the Hearst Television station serving the Burlington/Plattsburgh market, has an opening for an experienced Newscast Director. This position is responsible for communicating and executing all technical aspects of live production, with all technical staff, including the Producer, Audio Operator, Studio, and Engineering. Job Responsibilities:

  • Directing broadcast newscasts.
  • Provide creative input and will work closely with the newscast producer and production crew.
  • Be responsible for clean technical execution of the overall look of the newscast.
  • Must be able to call and punch a newscast.

Experience Requirements:

  • 2 years directing and technical directing fast-paced newscasts
  • Must also have experience with production switchers, video servers, and audio and studio equipment.
  • Equivalent military experience will be considered.

Qualifications Requirements:  

  • MOS and basic computer network understanding.
  • Understanding of Grass Valley Automation
  • Understanding of newsroom systems ENPS and video playback systems.
  • Candidate should be a problem solver and quick thinker, using technical know-how to resolve existing issues and to work around problems that arise during live news.
  • The position requires shift flexibility. Shift may include early mornings and weekend duties.

Sales Account Executive

WPTZ NBC5, has an immediate opening for an experienced Local Sales Account Executive. This position provides an excellent opportunity to be part of a local news leader in the market.  Great resources, including Nielsen ratings, Marshall Marketing qualitative data, and the vast digital assets of Hearst Television, provide significant opportunity for building innovative and effective marketing and sponsorship opportunities for both established and newly developed clients.  This position requires travel throughout the entire DMA, but can be based in either South Burlington, VT or Plattsburgh, NY.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create, develop and nurture positive business relationships in the community
  • Sell commercial time to local and/or regional advertisers and agencies. Includes on-air and digital media platforms.
  • Generate new revenue by developing new advertisers to our medium.
  • Manage and evolve a list of current valued clients
  • Responsible for ensuring commercials are complete and ready to air on schedule.
  • Responsible for orderly flow of all sales transactions, including overseeing preemptions and make-goods.
  • Prepare creative presentations using rating services and other resources.

Experience Requirements:

  • Previous television/media/advertising experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer applications (MS Office) and ability to learn proprietary software (Wide Orbit, Marshall Marketing, Kantar).
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
