Photojournalist

WPTZ NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market has an opening for a NBC5/ WPTZ-TV, the Hearst Television station in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market, is accepting applications for a full time Photojournalist. This member of our team will spend several hours each day out in the field shooting, editing, and executing live shots for stories. The winning candidate is also tech savvy and up-to-date on the most modern aspects of our medium. You must be able to shoot on Sony XDCam, GoPro, iPhone, and edit in Adobe Premiere and utilize the ENG, SNG, and wireless data to feed completed work to the station. FAA drone license and operation a plus.

During work hours, you’ll be in our brand new, state-of-the-art facility. In off hours, you’ll be surrounded by some of the best ski areas in the country, scenic mountains, and some of the most beautiful waterways in the country.

Job Responsibilities:    

  • Shooting and editing of VOs, VO-SOTs and packages for Broadcast Air and On-line postings
  • Working with the Assignment Desk and Reporters to cover daily stories.
  • Gathers video and still pictures for digital platforms
  • Working with reporters and producers to ensure the best content and facts are gathered.
  • Working with producers to ensure their creative vision is executed with vivid video and natural sound.
  • Communicating and coordinating incoming video elements from crews in the field.
  • Can work with catalog systems to record and locate necessary video.
  • Will produce and publish content to our online platforms

Experience Requirements:

  • Must have computer and software experience.
  • Previous newsroom experience preferred.
  • Related military experience will be considered.

Qualifications Requirements:   

  • Must possess a valid license, and have an excellent driving record. References and motor vehicle record will be checked.
  • Position requires flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as well as extensive travel within the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market and adjacent markets.
  • Can easily carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Can work in all weather conditions.

Newscast Producer

We’re looking for a story teller who thrives on breaking news, and the urgency of a fast-paced, dynamic newscast. Our next producer will join a team of award-winning journalists committed to dynamic local news coverage. Job Responsibilities:

  • Selecting, and writing material for a daily newscast.
  • Building graphics and shaping how a story is presented for a live newscast.
  • Working with reporters and helping them shape their daily reports.
  • Possess an ability to communicate clearly and quickly to effectively give direction, and to explain your vision of a newscast to anchors, reporters, and directors.
  • Selecting, researching and writing content for live newscasts to make the newscast an experience for viewers
  • Communicating, coordinating and executing creative vision with team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
  • Our producers are required to edit video and contribute to our digital platforms.

Experience Requirements:

  • Creative presentation style.
  • Experience in a newsroom, the ability to remain calm under pressure and knowledge of ENPS are pluses.
  • Military experience in a related occupation specialty will be considered.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Excellent writing, spelling, grammar and copy-editing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • An ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components.
  • Creative presentation style, and ability to showcase all resources and elements.
  • Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards.

News Editor

Digital Sales Manager

  • Prepare and implement individual advertiser account strategy including revenue goals.
  • Regularly meet with local sales team, including group and individual meetings, to ensure their professional development and success with stated goals.
  • In partnership with the Local Sales Manager, lead weekly sales meeting; prepare and lead quarterly/annual sales planning meeting.

  • Possess the skills to manage and supervise others.

Newscast Director
