Newscast Producer

WPTZ NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market, has an opening for a Newscast Producer. We’re looking for a story teller who thrives on breaking news, and the urgency of a fast-paced, dynamic newscast. Our next producer will join a team of award-winning journalists committed to dynamic local news coverage. We want a producer who demonstrates solid news judgement, and who has an eye for using video, graphics, and studio features to effectively convey information.   We approach everything as a team at WPTZ. We expect you to come in with an open mind, ready to learn and ready to lend a hand to other members of the team when needed. 

During work hours, you’ll be in our brand new, state-of-the-art facility. In off hours, you’ll be surrounded by some of the best ski areas in the country, scenic mountains, and some of the most beautiful waterways in the country.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Selecting, and writing material for a daily newscast.
  • Building graphics and shaping how a story is presented for a live newscast.
  • Working with reporters and helping them shape their daily reports.
  • Possess an ability to communicate clearly and quickly to effectively give direction, and to explain your vision of a newscast to anchors, reporters, and directors.
  • Selecting, researching and writing content for live newscasts to make the newscast an experience for viewers
  • Communicating, coordinating and executing creative vision with team of anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
  • Our producers are required to edit video and contribute to our digital platforms.

Experience Requirements:

  • Creative presentation style.
  • Experience in a newsroom, the ability to remain calm under pressure and knowledge of ENPS are pluses.
  • Military experience in a related occupation specialty a plus.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Excellent writing, spelling, grammar and copy-editing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • An ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components.
  • Creative presentation style, and ability to showcase all resources and elements.
  • Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
  • Must be available to work holidays, shifts that include nights, weekends and overnights, and flexible with
  • schedule to be available during breaking news.

Education:

  • College degree in broadcast journalism, broadcast news, or related field preferred

National Sales Manager

WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst Television station in the Burlington/Plattsburgh market, is seeking an energetic, passionate, analytical and creative National Sales Manager who is up to the challenge of setting new records across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate will lead, motivate and inspire the national sales team to exceed revenue goals and assist the Local Sales Manager with local sales when needed. They will have a keen attention to detail and be organized. Client engagement is a top priority. Candidates should also have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple challenges simultaneously and be excellent in broadcast sales negotiation. Also, candidate must be able to take initiative and make decisions without daily guidance. As a National Sales Manager, it is the expectation that you will work primarily at the station as well as away from the station, meeting with clients and attending sales calls.  You will have capabilities for zoom/video conference meetings as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Set the overall tone for the national sales department by providing exemplary leadership in accordance with mutually agreed upon sales goals and priorities
  • Lead our national rep firm sales team with clear direction on our expectations and strategies. 
  • Develop and execute strategies to achieve national sales goals across multiple media platforms. 
  • Work alongside our Local Sales Manager to foster a positive sales environment
  • Work closely with the national rep firm on forecasting, negotiations and planning also coach and inspire our team of national reps to grow share
  • Negotiate all national business including political
  • Work with the national sales assistant on preempts and orders
  • Accurately forecast national broadcast revenue
  • Assist the local sales manager and digital sales manager in helping to grow local TV and Digital revenue share
  • Achieve or exceed the national revenue budget
  • Ability to work with the GSM on inventory management and pricing

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years broadcast sales or management experience.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Is highly computer literate in all Microsoft Office products and ideally has experience with Wide Orbit,
  • Wide Orbit Media Sales and Matrix, or other CRM software.
  • Understands how to communicate effectively and build strong internal and external relationships 
  • Possesses an acute understanding of how to forecast future revenue 
  • Has the creativity to develop targeted, customer focused marketing solutions using multiple media products including but not limited to television, web, mobile, and multi-cast 
  • Takes full ownership of national budgets and revenue goals and constantly develop strategies to overachieve 
  • Takes pride in being extremely well-organized and always prepared 
  • The ability to analyze issues thoroughly in order to make sound business decisions and solve problems effectively
  • Ability to communicate effective and persuasive sales presentations
  • Has an excellent understanding of how to price effectively and manage inventory.     

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred

Anchor/Reporter

WPTZ/WNNE, a Hearst Television Inc., NBC affiliate in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market is looking for a weekend morning anchor/multimedia journalist who will bring composure and personality to our anchor desk, and who has the ability to generate story ideas, write to video and do compelling liveshots. Master Control Operator

This person is responsible for the equipment that provides the content of our broadcast on-air program streams. You will be responsible for monitoring multiple air channels, acquiring, ingesting and preparing content, executing playlists, maintaining regulatory compliance, assuring quality control of on air product, and documenting transmission events. This position involves ingesting commercials and programs, timing them and making sure they all play on air properly.
