Producer

WPTZ NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market has an opening for a Newscast Producer. We’re looking for a story teller who thrives on breaking news, and the urgency of a fast-paced, dynamic newscast. Our next producer will join a team of award-winning journalists committed to dynamic local news coverage. We want a producer who demonstrates solid news judgement, and who has an eye for using video, graphics, and studio features to effectively convey information.   We approach everything as a team at WPTZ. Job Responsibilities:

  • Selecting, and writing material for a daily newscast.
  • Building graphics and shaping how a story is presented for a live newscast.

  • Possess an ability to communicate clearly and quickly to effectively give direction, and to explain your vision of a newscast to anchors, reporters, and directors.

Production Assistant (Part-time)

WPTZ/NBC5 has an opening for a part time Production Assistant. We are looking for an energetic team player who understands the flexible schedule that the broadcast industry requires to join our production crew. This person will be responsible for operating cameras, teleprompter and video equipment; as related to live broadcasts and post-production.  Must have good technical skills, and good communication skills. Responsibilities include floor directing, assisting the news department, and other duties as assigned. 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Operation of cameras, prompters, sets and other production equipment. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment necessary.
  • Lighting and script preparation for newscasts. 
  • Video cueing during newscasts. 
  • Maintain professional appearance of studio/sets.  
  • Assist the directors as needed.

Multimedia Journalist

Meteorologist

We are looking for a meteorologist who knows the science, but can tell a relatable weather story. Our next meteorologist will be an accurate forecaster, convey an appropriate tone of urgency and authority in severe weather coverage, summarize complicated information, and stay cool under pressure. This meteorologist will be assigned to weekend weather anchoring, fill-in for weekday meteorologists and reporting.

Digital Media Manager

WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst-owned television station in Burlington, VT, is looking for a multi-platform journalist to execute our station’s digital strategy and multimedia content initiatives. The Digital Media Manager is responsible for overall management and direction for all digital content efforts, including our website and social media pages. The Digital Media Manager helps craft and execute the strategy and tactics to achieve our journalistic, content and business goals. This is done under the direction of the News Director and by working closely with fellow newsroom managers and staff, as well as promotion and sales staff. You will also be responsible for creating and organizing unique, interesting and dynamic content for all digital platforms.  You will also be responsible for working with our news crews, producers and assignment editors to assign and produce content every day. Additionally, you will be responsible for relaying to producers the content that is available on our digital platforms. The ideal candidate will also have working knowledge of digital technology as well as strong writing and editorial skills.

  • Manages online content and operations. This includes selecting and writing material for all of our digital platforms.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Prepare and anchor sports segment and sports stories
  • Serve as a reporter and photographer for gathering and presenting sports stories
  • Produce and anchor sports specials
  • Post sports stories to digital platforms including social media
  • Work with promotions and marketing to provide material for promoting stories and segments
  • Work with the assignment desk to plan resources for sports coverage
  • Travel to sporting events for coverage at times
  • In-person attendance is required

Experience Requirements:

  • Non-linear editing knowledge, preferable with Adobe Premier
  • Knowledge and experience with ENPS
  • Broadcasting degree or equivalent preferred
