News Editor

Vermont Public is seeking a creative and thoughtful journalist to deliver first-rate news content to our broadcast and digital audiences as the News Editor.

Summary:
Vermont Public is looking for someone who can help turn a breaking news story but also experiment with innovative ways to tell in-depth stories. As News Editor, the ideal candidate will take a lead role in shaping the essential news of the day. This is a key position that assists in creating and editing Vermont Public’s Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Weekend Edition newscasts, as well as interviews and issues coverage. This position also involves editing digital stories and working with reporters on features. Throughout the day you will edit reporters’ broadcast and digital stories. You should bring a collaborative spirit and the ability to lead a team and supervise content creation. The News Editor also works closely with editors, reporters, and producers across the newsroom, including: Vermont Edition, Brave Little State, and our daily news podcast, The Frequency.

Who Should Apply?
Candidates must love the medium of public radio and audio storytelling and possess strong news judgment; direct broadcast experience not necessary. Five years of journalism experience required. Candidates are expected to have a high level of commitment and dedication to the mission of the organization and public media. Details:

Videographer

Vermont Public is seeking a Videographer. This position plays an integral role in all Vermont Public video productions including live broadcasts, taped programs, promotions, and digital content. They must be the right balance of artist and technician. A skilled camera operator with an eye for composition, lighting, and
camera techniques but also an adept gear manager driven by organization and function. Management and producers will rely on the Videographer to help set the team up for success during pre-production but also for guidance and inspiration from behind the camera while filming. In addition, the videographer must be able to assist content projects in other ways including audio capture, editing, and general production assistance as assigned. Involves nights and weekends as needed and occasional travel in and out of state.

Who Should Apply?
Individuals with a minimum of 3 years total of professional or educational experience in TV and/or video production. A degree in Television Production, Communications, Creative Media, or related field is preferred but not required. Candidates will be expected to have a high level of commitment and dedication to the
mission of the organization and public media. Must be able to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with co-workers and audience, supporting and enhancing a culture of belonging as well as preserving confidentiality appropriately.

Details:
This position is part of the Bargaining Unit (Union), and the compensation range starts at $23.45/hour or $48,786/year for 40 hours/week. Overtime is paid at time and a half. Involves nights and weekends as needed and occasional travel in and out of state. We offer 5+ weeks of paid time off, paid FMLA, life insurance, 401K, health, dental, and vision plans. Desired position start date by September 15th, 2022.

Director of Digital Media 

Vermont Public is seeking a Director of Digital Media to join our team and develop a forward-thinking On Demand programming strategy. Reporting to the Sr VP of Audience + Community, this position will oversee digital efforts across the organization, setting a vision for how to reach our new and existing audiences in new and emerging platforms. This position will work within the Audience and Community team as well as cross-departmentally to distribute content with a specific focus on existing and emerging digital media. This position also works closely with IT to pursue the continuous enhancement of technical infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the organization, identify areas of opportunity, and plan for the future of on-demand experiences.

Media Specialist-Master Control 

Vermont Public is seeking a Media Specialist to be a part of the master control team that brings our educational, news, and entertainment programs to our viewers. You will be responsible for on-air program execution. We are looking for someone comfortable with technology, willing to learn new things, and eager to work with the teams who create broadcast VT PBS. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with co-workers and audience, supporting and enhancing a culture of belonging.

Experience of at least one year in television, radio, database management, or production company required. Should be familiar with digital video formats, broadcast asset workflow, satellite downlinks, closed captioning, and digital (web and other media) distribution. Must possess technical competency in operating computers and communicating with others on-site and remotely.
