Description for Internal Candidates    
WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate station in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY, has an opportunity for a meteorologist to join our Weather Team. We are looking for a meteorologist who knows the science, but can tell a relatable weather story. This is a great learning opportunity for someone looking to enter the field of broadcast meteorology. You will working collaboratively with a team of meteorologists as well as other members of the newsroom.
During work hours, you’ll be in our brand new, state-of-the-art facility. In off hours, you’ll be surrounded by some of the best ski areas in the country, scenic mountains, and some of the most beautiful waterways in the country.

Job Responsibilities:
•    Give our viewers the weather forecast with accurate, compelling, and understandable weather storytelling and graphics.
•     Will provide urgent, immediate weather information before and during severe weather events
•    Will be able to simultaneously provide content on TV and on our digital platforms.
•    Could be deployed in the field during weather events, science and community-based reporting
•    Summarize fact and clearly communicate content for broadcast
•    In-person attendance is required. Position is located in South Burlington, VT.

Qualifications Requirements:
•    In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting.
•    Knowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high powered radar data
•    Proficient in using WSI and other graphics and technology
•    Excellent forecasting and on-air skills
•    Ability to tell a compelling weather story
•    Ability to do live field reporting on weather and other topics. 

Education:
•    Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology or related field or equivalent experience

Photographer

WPTZ/NBC5 has an opening for a self-motivated individual who wants to win each day. We are seeking a News Photographer with the ability to capture the essence of what’s happening in the field, and then bring it vividly into the homes of our viewers.

WPTZ/NBC5, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market is accepting applications for a full time Photojournalist. This member of our team will spend several hours each day out in the field shooting, editing, and executing live shots for stories. The winning candidate is also tech savvy and up-to-date on the most modern aspects of our medium. You must be able to shoot on Sony XDCam, GoPro, iPhone, and edit in Adobe Premiere and utilize the ENG, SNG, and wireless data to feed completed work to the station.

Job Responsibilities:                                      

  • Shooting and editing of VOs, VO-SOTs and packages for Broadcast Air and On-line postings

  • Working with reporters and producers to ensure the best content and facts are gathered.
  • Working with producers to ensure their creative vision is executed with vivid video and natural sound.
  • Communicating and coordinating incoming video elements from crews in the field.

Qualifications Requirements:                                              

  • Must possess a valid license, and have an excellent driving record. References and motor vehicle record will be checked.
  • Position requires flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as well as extensive travel within the Burlington, VT/Plattsburgh, NY market and adjacent markets.

NBC5 is a key community partner in the area, providing breaking news, weather, and other information to local audiences through our newscasts and digital properties. NBC5 also provides entertainment programming and partners with the community on important local initiatives.

As a paid intern, you will come to understand how a television station functions, the many jobs available and the roles the TV station plays in the community. As an intern, you’ll learn what it’s like to work with a collaborative team across multiple departments, how we get news on the air and on our digital platforms, and the vital role other departments play at the television station.
