It’s time to register for the VAB’s 62nd Annual Convention, which will be held Wednesday, May 17 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Montpelier.


Our featured sales trainer this year is Kennen Williams.

Williams will teach you and your sales staff “How to Become a Retail Marketing kennan williams 2Guru,” and follow that seminar with a session on “Killer Sales Presentations.”

He’ss been the President of Noll & Associates since 1992. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Kennen travels throughout the U.S. and Canada consulting and training media clients on topics ranging from Key Account Management to Negotiating Skills.  This will be his first appearance at the VAB Convention.

Regulatory Update

david oxenfordWe’re glad to welcome back David Oxenford, one of the nation’s top broadcast attorneys.  There’s been a lot going on at the FCC – David will give you a regulatory update on the latest happenings.  David is a partner at the law firm of Wilkinson Barker Knauer LLP, practicing out of its Washington, DC office.  His regulatory expertise includes all areas of broadcast law including the FCC’s multiple ownership limitations, the political broadcasting rules, EEO policy and much more.  He is also the author of Broadcast Law Blog.


Chief Engineer Joe Tymecki of VPR will present an important EAS seminar:
                                   “EAS: I didn’t get the test, now what?”

Do you know how to tell if your gear is even operating OK?  This workshop will go over a very high level outline of the Vermont state EAS plan and how the things generally work.  We will dive in to (but not too deep) the Sage Digital Endec and go over the things you need to know how to check.  
Joe is a past recipient of the VAB’s Snyder-Teffner Award for excellence behind the scenes.

Social Media Roundtable

What are the best ways to utilize social media to build listener and viewer loyaltysarah spencer 2, and add to your bottom line?  Those and other social media questions will be explored at our Social Media Roundtable.  Members of the panel will include radio personality Sarah Spencer of Hall Communications, WCAX-TV social media strategist Audrey Ramsden and Radio Vermont social media director JD Green. Sarah, pictured here, is the owner of Got Clicks Marketing and has presented Facebook markeing strategies to the American Small Business Development Center.  

The convention will conclude with the 2017 Commercial of the Year Awards luncheon. This prestigious contest is the only such competition in Vermont, and is designed to encourage and reward excellence in copywriting and production for radio and TV.   We expect Governor Phil Scott will join us for a few remarks, schedule permitting.
