November 14th was the 35th Anniversary of Northshire Communications’ WEQX-FM in Manchester, VT!
The heritage Alternative station first hit the airwaves in 1984, and the staff has been celebrating with a daily music feature called 35 Years Of EQX In 35 days. This culminated November 14th with continued musical exploration, staff stories and on-air recorded messages from past EQX luminaries celebrating their time at the station, while also paying homage to EQX founder, the late VAB Hall of Famer A. Brooks Brown.
WEQX PD/Morning Drive Host Jeff Morad explains how the 35 year concept and execution of the feature came together. “You know us radio programmers, we just can’t do a feature unless there’s some cheesy tie-in. So, just a few days before we were 35 days out to the station anniversary, I asked Jason Keller (Afternoons/Production/Imaging) and Luke Gelheiser (MD/Nights), to put together a daily feature where we played an entire 24 hours worth of music from each year leading back to 1984.”
“So as to not neglect the new music on the station, we wound up creating a daily benchmark where hosts from mornings through nights picked their favorite songs, played them and gave a backstory as to how those tracks have shaped the history of the station. It’s been a ton of fun on our part and for the listeners as we’ve been playing so much influential music from 1984 to today” said Morad.
